Trailer trip planning

Joshua Tree camping

A working camping plan for your 27-foot trailer, with the most practical campground options and booking links.

Working plan

Dec 4–6, 2026 · 27′ trailer + truck

This is a strong cool-weather weekend for Joshua Tree. The main goal is an easy campsite for your trailer setup, good access, and enough space to avoid a stressful arrival after dark.

Top pick

Black Rock Campground

My first campground to check. It gives you classic Joshua-tree scenery and is one of the easier camping areas for RVs and trailers. It also has potable water and a dump station nearby.

Second pick

Cottonwood Campground

A practical RV-friendly option, especially if you want easier access from I-10. It has potable water and a dump station and tends to be simpler logistically for a tow setup.

Before booking

Trailer fit checklist

  • Confirm the individual campsite’s driveway length, not just the campground’s general RV limit.
  • Account for your truck as well as the 27′ trailer.
  • Check whether the site is back-in or pull-through.
  • Verify generator rules if you plan to use one.
  • Expect cold nights in December, even when daytime weather is comfortable.
