Padres at Petco Park

Find a low-cost weekend game that starts after Wayne’s nap and still lets us bail early enough to protect bedtime.

What matters most

The target game

DaySaturday is the best fit if we can find an earlier first pitch.
NapWayne’s nap typically ends around 2:30 PM.
Ideal startAround 4:00 PM gives us time to get downtown after nap without rushing.
Leave earlyWe do not need to stay for all 9 innings. Plan to leave when it stops being fun.
Home goalAim to be back around 6:30 PM if possible.
PriorityCheaper tickets matter more than who the Padres are playing.
Best early-season windows

Weekends to watch

The 2027 schedule has several weekend home series before mid-May. Game times have not been finalized yet, so these are the first dates I’d monitor once first-pitch times are posted.

  • Apr 30–May 2: Baltimore Orioles at Petco Park
  • May 14–16: Cincinnati Reds at Petco Park

Because opponent is not important to us, the better choice is whichever Saturday gives us the best combination of an earlier start time and lower ticket price.

Bonus matchup

Padres vs. Mariners

If seeing Seattle would make the game more fun, the Mariners visit Petco Park July 16–18, 2027. It is a weekend series, but it falls later than our original spring target.

Worth keeping on the list as a fun alternative, but I would not pay a big premium just for the matchup.
Cheaper tickets

How I’d shop it

  • Start with Padres.com once 2027 single-game tickets go on sale.
  • Compare a few different home weekends rather than locking onto one opponent.
  • Skip premium matchups, opening weekend, major giveaways, and Dodgers games if price is the priority.
  • Upper-level or outfield seats are completely fine for a toddler visit where we may leave early.
  • Check authorized resale closer to game day if inventory is high. Prices sometimes soften for lower-demand games.
  • Compare the total checkout price, not just the listed ticket price.
Wayne at Petco

Keep the outing low-pressure

  • Treat the game as an experience, not a commitment to all 9 innings.
  • Choose aisle seats so leaving for snacks, walking, or an early exit is easy.
  • Arrive after nap rather than trying to make batting practice.
  • Bring familiar snacks and water within the current Petco Park entry rules.
  • If he is restless after a few innings, that is the cue to head home.
Ticket note

Wayne may not need a ticket

The Padres’ current policy says children under 36 inches tall can enter free with a ticketed adult if they sit on an adult’s lap. We should recheck the rule before buying because Wayne’s height, not just his age, determines whether this applies.

Parking & arrival

Make leaving early easy

For this outing I would optimize parking for a quick exit rather than the absolute cheapest lot. Pre-purchasing a Padres-preferred lot can make arrival more predictable, and getting out quickly matters if we are trying to protect bedtime.

What to do next

Once game times are released

  • Filter to Saturday home games.
  • Prioritize first pitches between roughly 3:30 and 4:30 PM.
  • Compare Apr 30–May 2 and May 14–16 first.
  • Check the July 16–18 Mariners weekend as the fun wildcard.
  • Pick the cheapest acceptable seats and plan from the start to leave early.
